Indonesian President Jokowi Arrival in Hiroshima Sparks Interest Ahead of G7 Summit

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo have arrived in Hiroshima, Japan. The clear weather welcomed Jokowi and Iriana upon their arrival, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat's Bureau of Press, Media, and Information on Friday, May 19, 2023. The Indonesian-1 presidential plane, carrying Jokowi and a limited delegation, landed at Hiroshima International Airport at around 5:45 pm local time after a flight lasting approximately 6 hours.


Upon their arrival, Jokowi and Iriana were welcomed by Japan's Vice Foreign Minister Kenji Yamada, State Protocol Director Takehiro Shimada, Chairman of the Hiroshima Prefectural Assembly Takashi Nakamoto, Hiroshima City Council Chairman Tatsunori Motani, Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Heri Akhmadi and his wife, and Indonesian Defense Attaché to KBRI Tokyo Colonel (AF) Andi Nur Abadi and his wife.

Jokowi and Iriana then proceeded to their hotel where they will spend the night during their stay in Hiroshima. The following day, Jokowi is slated to attend the G7 Outreach Summit 2023, a high-level conference with partner countries.


A number of ministers who had already been in Hiroshima to prepare for Jokowi and Iriana's visit were present to greet them at the hotel. These included Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Consul General in Osaka Diana Sutikno and her husband, as well as DCM at KBRI Tokyo John Boestami.
